About
Dr. Matthew D. McElveen is a native of the city of New Orleans. He graduated from Louisiana State University Health and Sciences Center in New Orleans in 2000. He completed a residency program in internal medicine at LSU Health and Sciences Center in 2003. After residency, he underwent training in a two year medical oncology fellowship program at LSU in New Orleans. He has practiced in his hometown of Slidell since 2005.
Dr. McElveen has been working as the medical director at the SMH Regional Cancer Center since it opened in 2011. As medical director, he works to ensure the Cancer Center provides exceptional, comprehensive, and compassionate care to its patients - close to home. As a medical oncologist in the SMH Physician Network, he treats patients with most types of cancer but specializes in cancers of the breast, lung, and colon
