Guardian Angels
Honor an employee or caregiver who made a difference during your stay at Slidell Memorial Hospital through the SMH Foundation’s Guardian Angel program.
Whether it was a physician, nurse, housekeeper, volunteer or anyone in between, you can pay tribute to a special caregiver with a donation to the SMH Foundation. The person will receive a Guardian Angel pin to wear, along with a thank you note from you.
Stories of Real Angels
These Guardian Angels are just two examples of the caring providers who work at SMH.
An Angel on the Nursing Staff
Marilyn was a patient at SMH and truly felt cared for by Bethany, her nurse. When Marilyn had to be admitted a second time, she specifically requested that Bethany take care of her during her recovery. Marilyn made a donation to the SMH Foundation in Bethany's name and awarded her a Guardian Angel pin to show her appreciation.
A Housekeeper’s Singing Lifts a Patient’s Spirits
Genevieve, a stroke patient at SMH, was deeply saddened by what the stroke had done to her body and mind. Her family members tried to comfort her without any luck.
One morning, Genevieve’s family noticed she was more alert than usual — her eyes were wide and a smile had returned to her face. A housekeeper named Annie was cleaning her room and singing while she worked. When Annie noticed Genevieve’s reaction, she moved closer to the bed singing directly to her. The family was amazed by Genevieve’s new attitude, and Annie’s daily visits ultimately encouraged Genevieve's recovery. The family was so grateful that they honored Annie with a contribution in her name to the Guardian Angel program.
"I was moved when one of my patients made a Guardian Angel contribution in my name. I wear my Guardian Angel pin to work every day and kept the thank you note that came with it.”
